It seems as if everyone says they are coaching, but when I explore that further with members and others, often what they refer to as coaching is more akin to training, performance management, mentoring or feedback – all valuable disciplines. Coaching is different and the beauty of using it as an intervention is that it comes from within the individual, not from the organisation’s or manager’s view of what good looks like.
One of my favourite things is working with people to help them understand the value and benefits of coaching, especially in the moment when they ‘get it’. All preconceived ideas are gone. The possibilities and opportunities are palpable – to learn skills that will help them to help others release their potential.
