A new approach to scheduling for field engineers is transforming their working lives whilst de-risking the business and improving performance. Significantly, it has cut backlogs in the pilot areas by 78% in six months. This was made possible when a new field planning analyst joined the team, who had the initiative to understand what was not working, listen to the field engineers and take their complaints and frustrations seriously, not being afraid to change what the computer system had allocated. Crucially, the local and specialist knowledge of technicians is now embedded in a central database; using this insight to make resourcing decisions now enables better plans and controls risk.
