Putting People First – Why have we chosen this for our 2013 conference theme?

The theme for the 2013 conference is Putting People First.  Why Putting People First? Every successful innovation that wins our awards is driven by the passion and energy of people. Even projects that seem to be about technology or numbers are driven by people with confidence and skill. People who care; who communicate their passion. In fact I am astounded when I look back to realise that almost every project has a dimension that is about cultural change, however technical it seems at first sight.

Here at the Planning Forum we say that people lie behind every number. If you want the plan to work, if you want to raise performance, if you want the customer to notice the difference, then we need to take people with us on the journey, to light the fire of enthusiasm and commitment. We need to put people first.

Each year we take a conference theme to focus our best practice programme for the coming year. In the last few years we have placed a big emphasis on performance - Planning for Peak Performance, Expanding Horizons, Passionate about Performance, Delivering the Customer Journey.

In 2013 we are not losing this emphasis on performance, but looking deeper at how our organisations can reach their potential and sustain peak performance, day in day out. This only happens if our day to day process and culture put our people at the heart of our business. We need to be confident that what we are doing truly matters and to show we care.

I look forward to seeing you at our conference this year. Browse through links on the right hand side of the conference website, and make sure you book your place early both for yourself and your team.
