The Flexibility Toolkit: How to create and deliver effective solutions

Discussions in the challenge workshops were very revealing. Traditional mindsets, technology and processes all seemed to get in the way of better solutions! It is inspiring to see how these hurdles are overcome by confident, skilled planners.

Analysis of the scale of volatility definitely encouraged new thinking. For example many thought about using unpaid leave more strategically. If you staff to a higher level (to allow for shrinkage), the initial cost is quickly offset with both tactical and strategic use of unpaid leave. Shift swaps, allowed by the majority of organisations, are often only like-for-like shifts, or where WFM desktop allowed.
