At Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) we aspire to deliver world class care to the communities we serve, and are the commissioned provider for NHS 111 Call Centre services across the Yorkshire, Humber and Northern Lincolnshire regions. 

In line with our ambition to continuously improve the service we are able to offer the pivotal role of Workforce Team Manager within the NHS 111 Workforce Team. This role is vital in ensuring that we have the right resource available at the right time to meet patient demand. Applicants must have a strong understanding of the planning cycle and having the ability to foster excellent relationships internally and externally.  

The post holder will be responsible for providing insights and presenting planning statistics to all staff groups. Ensuring the release of rotation patterns, optimised to have the appropriate staff with the appropriate skills in the appropriate place.

Though not necessarily gained in the NHS, your management experience may well include similar, response-based operations where the successful co-ordination of teams in often time-pressured environments is key. You will be strategic and bring a structured approach to scheduling which delivers real benefits to day-to-day operations over the long term. 

Reporting to the Workforce and Performance Manager , you will be responsible for:

  • Meeting service levels and other operational performance objectives across the Trust
  • Ensuring effective and efficient utilisation of resources through roster patterns that ensure that capability is maintained in the most efficient and cost effective way without compromising service delivery 
  • Providing daily direction and communication to the Workforce Team so that staff requests are addressed in a timely, efficient, and knowledgeable manner 
  • Providing continual evaluation of processes and procedures, and suggesting methods to improve area operations, efficiency and service 
  • Assisting the operations management team in the design and implementation of effective and timely operational reports 

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • Relevant management experience in an operational / service improvement function 
  • Contact centre experience within an operational environment with extensive experience and understanding of call centre statistics and systems 
  • Experience in resource and capacity planning, including shift and roster design / workforce scheduling to match activity / demand profiles using forecasting methodologies 
  • Previous experience developing clear and concise capacity information reports with statistical analysis 
  • Experience of working with specialised planning tools and / or a strong understanding of other workforce planning and resourcing tools using Erlang formulae
